Job summary

Bates White is seeking Summer Consultants for its Washington, DC program. You will analyze data, conduct industry research, and synthesize findings into compelling reports for clients. You’ll gain training across econometrics and economics while engaging in a collaborative, inclusive culture.

The role offers a meaningful, case-study-driven experience with leadership exposure, social events, and mentorship. You will work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree (required).
• Graduating between Dec 2027 and Spring 2028.
• Aptitude for numbers and interest in programming and analysis (Stata/R/Python) helpful but not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Teamwork and leadership abilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Candidates must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Analyze large quantities of data using programs such as Stata, R, Python, SQL, and Excel.
• Conduct industry research, review legal documents, and synthesize relevant information.
• Communicate results through data visualization, reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels and backgrounds, from Consultants to PhD Economists and Partners.
• Develop technical skills (R, Stata, Excel) and soft skills through intensive trainings.
• Participate in a case study.
• Organize a firmwide event to raise money for a nonprofit of your choice.
• Develop valuable connections and career guidance though our Speaker Series with senior leadership, career path panel, practice-area lunch‑and‑learns, and more.

What you’ll bring to the table

We seek individuals who are motivated by intellectually stimulating work, are driven and excited to learn, and exude strong teamwork and leadership skills.

• Are pursuing an undergraduate degree (required). A technical background (e.g., economics, finance, computer science, engineering, etc.) is helpful but not required. All majors accepted.
• Will graduate between December 2027 and spring 2028.
• Have an aptitude for numbers and an interest in programming and analysis. Experience with Stata, R, or a similar programming language is helpful, but not required.
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a team‑oriented environment.
• Thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Demonstrate independence, tenacity, self‑confidence, and creativity.
• Can legally work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future. Note: Candidates who will rely upon CPT or OPT for work authorization as Summer Consultants and will need future visa sponsorship by Bates White if offered a role as a Consultant are discouraged from applying for the Summer Consultant Program.
