Guided by our philosophy of igniting the spark of genius in every child, Dwight is an inclusive school that aims to meet the unique needs, abilities, and interests of each student. At the same time, Dwight challenges every student to develop intellectual independence, respect for diversity and belonging, and to become innovators and thought leaders.

Known for its low student-teacher ratio, Dwight enrolls 1,100 students with 400 faculty and staff. Our School rests on three pillars: personalized learning, community, and global vision. As part of a leading global network of schools, Dwight offers employees exciting cross-campus opportunities. Additionally, with the support of The Dwight School Foundation’s generous grants, Dwight provides faculty professional development, enabling teachers to deepen their content knowledge and pursue their own sparks of genius to be shared with the community.

At Dwight, we strive to ensure that our environment is welcoming — a place in which everyone can thrive — and an organization we are proud of. We recognize that this takes trusting relationships and ensuring that all individuals feel valued regardless of their backgrounds. At Dwight, we encourage diversity in all respects, including diversity of thought, and embrace innovation and foster collaboration and growth.

Job Description

Dwight Summer Day Camp is looking to hire fun, dynamic individuals for the summer of 2025! Camp runs from June 16, 2025 through August 8th, 2025.

Seeking applicants who love kids and want the experience of working at camp and gaining skills. You get skills transferable to any industry in your future career path, including management, tenacity, perseverance, team work, patience, working under pressure, time management and more.

Position Summary: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Swim Instructors are mentors and role models for all Dwight campers. Our Aquatic camp team is responsible for bringing aquatic fun and energy to camp each and every day, while also taking the time to ensure the safety of all campers: managing their behavior, building a platform of trust with each swim group so they maintain a safe environment during swim sessions, and making sure that they are engaged for their lesson times in the pool. Swim Instructors work as part of a team, facilitating engaging swimming lessons with children over the course of the summer.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be 17+ years of age and possess a current (within one year) Lifeguarding/First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • Valid WSI Certification
  • Must be able to commit to work until August 8th
  • Demonstrated interest in working with children
  • Committed to communication and arriving to work on time

Desired

  • Experience in a summer camp or after school setting/working with children in groups

General Responsibilities

Activity Management

Swim Instructors work hands on to facilitate engaging swimming lessons for children over the course of the summer, providing them with the tools and structure they need to be successful in a day camp environment. Being part of the aquatics team as a camp Swim Instructor means you will be serving as a leader and role model for campers throughout the day. Working closely with the camp Aquatics director the swim instructor staff is responsible for creating a fun, productive, and inclusive environment for children of all types and abilities. Swim Instructors are expected to facilitate swimming lessons for campers without the support of group counselors.

Communication with Counselors and Leadership Staff

Swim Instructors work together to ensure the success of the campers throughout the summer, and this requires working together with other staff and your direct and indirect supervisors. It is essential that Swim Instructors communicate any issues that arise during the course of the day to supervisors.

Participate in Training

Prior to the start of the summer, all staff must participate in the Aquatics training program for camp, as well as periodic in-camp training throughout the summer.

Compensation:

  • Range of $18-$30 hourly
  • $500 bonus upon successful completion of camp
