Job summary

The City of Annapolis Recreation & Parks Department is seeking energetic camp counselors for Summer 2026. The program runs from June through August, offering activities for local youth and providing a structured curriculum to guide daily camper activities.

Counselors report to the Camp Director and assist with leadership of staff, ensuring safety and a positive, inclusive summer experience. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and enjoy working with children.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
• Ability to work with the general public in a tactful way.
• General knowledge of first-aid/CPR practices and techniques.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and participants.

Responsibilities

• Lead a wide variety of camp activities and classes.

The City of Annapolis Recreation & Parks Department is seeking energetic and responsible camp counselors for Summer 2026. The summer begins in June and ends in August.Distinguishing features of the class :

An employee in this class will report directly to the Camp Director and provide assistance with the leadership of camp counselors and is directly involved in the summer camps offered by the Recreation and Parks department for local youth during the summer season.

Examples of work (illustrative only) of Camp Counselors are responsible for:

• Leading a wide variety of camp activities and classes
• Ensuring the safety, enjoyment and well-being of campers ? Utilizing the supplied curriculum to guide daily camper activities
• Other duties as assigned

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service; ability to work with the general public in a tactful way; general knowledge of first-aid/CPR practices and techniques; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and activity participants.

Acceptable experience and training:

Minimum age of 16 and preferred experience working with childrenAmericans with Disabilities Act

Physical ability: ability to engage in physical recreational activities to include reaching, running, squatting, lifting and pushing.

Visual ability: sufficient to observe recreation activities.

Hearing ability: sufficient to hold conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.

Speaking ability: Ability to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.

Freedom from mental disorders, which would interfere with performance of duties as described.
