Job Description

As a Summer Camp Counselor (Team Leader at Galileo), you will be the core presence for each camper, guiding them through a safe, engaging, and impactful summer experience. You will stay with the same group all week, creating a supportive environment that prioritizes both physical and emotional safety. This is a seasonal role; counselors work full-time Monday - Friday.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Lead and Supervise Campers:
    • Supervise groups of 15+ campers weekly, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
    • Foster group connection through activities and daily interactions.
    • Manage camper behavior using restorative practices and support diverse needs.
    • Collaborate with instructors to deliver Galileo’s curriculum, integrating STEM subjects.
    • Assist in preparing materials and learning spaces.
    • Support extended care programming before and after camp hours.
  2. Engage In All Camp Activities:
    • Plan, set up, and run daily activities with teammates.
    • Lead campers during ceremonies, snacks, and lunch, ensuring safety and fun.
    • Participate in camp songs, chants, and skits to energize ceremonies.
    • Work as part of a team to create joyful camp experiences.
  3. Provide Exceptional Customer Service:
    • Greet and communicate with campers and families enthusiastically.
    • Follow check-in/out procedures for safety and efficiency.
    • Update families on campers’ experiences as needed.
  4. Build Skills with Training:
    • Complete paid online training before camp.
    • Attend pre-camp setup and training days.
    • Engage in ongoing feedback and professional development.
Compensation

Starting at $17.66/hour for first-year staff, with increases based on experience and tenure, up to $18.66/hour for experienced staff.

Qualifications
  • Experience supervising groups of children.
  • At least 1 summer or related experience.
  • College coursework in Education or Child Development is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask with enthusiasm.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to complete background checks, certifications, and onboarding before camp.
  • Availability for 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday, for at least 4 weeks, preferably full camp duration.
  • Must be at least 18 years old by May 12th, 2025.
