Job Overview
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Summer Camp Counselor will supervise and instruct children ages 5-12. The counselor will assist Activity Instructors in facilitating structured activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Safety and Risk Management
- Implement and follow YMCA standards, policies, and emergency procedures to ensure safety and child protection.
- Monitor health and safety of children, inspect facilities, and conduct health checks.
- Supervise camp groups and ensure a safe environment during all activities.
Program Quality and Growth- Assist in implementing lesson plans and preparing materials.
- Arrange classrooms and monitor children during activities.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect.
Leadership- Maintain proper staffing ratios.
- Build positive relationships with families, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Participate in training and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior childcare experience is a plus.
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to plan and implement educational activities.
- Proficiency with computers and safety procedures.
Work Environment and Certifications
- May need to obtain Community CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment.
- Attend all mandatory trainings and meetings.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Must have strength, agility, and mobility to supervise activities.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and lift at least 30 pounds.
- Work in various environments, including outdoor settings with temperature variations.
- Reliable transportation may be required.
