Position summary

Under guidance of the Camp Director, the Counselor oversees an assigned group of campers. Responsible for knowledge of the whereabouts of all assigned campers, ensuring safety standards, instructing campers of camp rules and regulation, maintaining discipline, and guiding campers throughout all daily activities. Works within the framework of the program, policies, standards and expectations of Andrews University and the State of Michigan. Must be energetic, creative, positive, and have the ability to work well with staff and campers alike. Be available to work June 2, 2025 - August 15, 2025 from 12 pm - 5:30 pm M-F.

Qualifications Summary
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Established record in leadership roles.
  • Ability to work long hours, in an outdoor setting, requiring regular physical activity, standing for long periods.
  • Ability to be highly punctual and to successfully allocate and manage time.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Provide an example of Christian behavior and language to all campers and fellow staff.
  • Attend all required pre-camp staff training, as well as in-camp training programs.
  • Conduct a short meeting to introduce all campers and present basic camp rules and regulations.
  • Sit at assigned table with campers during all meals. Oversee children assigned to each table, and ensure that campers at tables eat meals. Assist younger campers with eating as necessary. Report non-eaters to the Camp Director.
  • Attend daily morning staff meetings and receive assignments for activities and special events.
  • Guide and assist campers in their activities, ensuring they arrive at each activity prepared and on time.
  • Report injuries and/or suspected illness to the Camp Director.
  • Maintain camp discipline. Refer incidents of misbehavior, as necessary, to Camp Director.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment or hazardous situations to the Camp Director.
  • Assist with camp activities and events as assigned by the On-Site Program Director.
  • Promote high camper morale.
