Job Description

As a Summer Camp Counselor (or Team Leader at Galileo), you will be a core presence for each camper, guiding them through a safe, impactful, and engaging summer experience. You will stay with the same group all week, creating a supportive environment that prioritizes physical and emotional safety. This is a seasonal, full-time role, Monday through Friday.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervise groups of 15+ campers weekly, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience.
  • Foster group connection through activities, games, and interactions.
  • Manage camper behavior using restorative practices and support diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with instructors on Galileo’s project-based curriculum involving STEM subjects.
  • Prepare materials and learning spaces for activities.
  • Support extended care programming before and after camp hours.

Engage in all camp activities

  • Plan, set up, and run daily activities with teammates.
  • Lead campers during ceremonies, snacks, and lunch, maintaining safety and spirit.
  • Participate in camp songs, chants, and skits to energize opening and closing ceremonies.
  • Work as part of a team to create joyful, memorable camp experiences.

Provide exceptional customer service

  • Greet campers and families enthusiastically, creating a welcoming environment.
  • Manage check-in/check-out procedures efficiently.
  • Communicate with families about campers’ experiences to ensure positive daily transitions.

Build your skills with ongoing training and support

  • Complete paid online training on innovation education, policies, and best practices prior to camp.
  • Attend two in-person setup and training days.
  • Engage in professional development through feedback and hands-on learning.

Compensation

The expected pay rate is $17.25/hour for first-year staff, with increases based on tenure, up to $18.25/hour for experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising groups of 10+ children.
  • At least 1 year of experience in camp, childcare, education, or related fields.
  • College coursework in Education or Child Development is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask with enthusiasm and urgency.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Availability to work 8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, for at least 4 weeks.
  • Must be at least 18 years old by May 12, 2025.

Colorado State Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 and have 3 months (or 460 hours) of verifiable experience with school-age children.
  • Complete all licensing requirements, including background checks and PDIS training.
