Join us for a joyful summer in a mission-driven environment! As a Summer Camp Counselor (or Team Leader), you will be the core presence for each camper, guiding them through a safe, engaging, and impactful summer experience. You will stay with the same group all week, creating a supportive environment that emphasizes both physical and emotional safety. This is a seasonal, full-time position, working Monday through Friday.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead and Supervise Campers: Supervise groups of 15+ campers weekly, fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. Facilitate group connection through activities and daily interactions. Manage camper behavior with restorative practices and provide individual support based on diverse needs. Collaborate with instructors to deliver Galileo’s innovative, project-based curriculum integrating STEM fields. Support instructors in preparing materials and learning spaces. Participate in extended care programming before and after camp hours.
  • Engage in All Camp Activities: Plan, set up, and run daily activities with teammates. Lead campers during ceremonies, snacks, and lunch, ensuring safety and enthusiasm. Participate in camp songs, chants, and skits to energize opening and closing ceremonies. Work collaboratively to create joyful and memorable camp experiences.
  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Welcome campers and families warmly, ensuring a positive environment. Follow check-in/check-out procedures for safety and efficiency. Communicate with families about campers’ experiences to foster positive relationships.
Build Your Skills with Ongoing Training and Support!
  • Complete paid online training on innovation education, Galileo policies, and best practices before camp begins.
  • Attend two in-person setup and training days to prepare and meet your team.
  • Grow professionally through feedback, supplemental training, and hands-on learning guided by camp leaders.
Compensation

We are committed to pay transparency and equity. The anticipated hourly rate is $17.25 for first-year staff, with exact pay based on location and experience. Returning staff earn between $17.50 and $18.25 per hour depending on tenure. Benefits include one free week of camp for your child, a 15% Friends and Family Discount, priority scholarship nominations, and membership in the Galileo Alumni Community of over 20,000 changemakers.

Qualifications
