Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory is hiring a camp counselor to support summer camp programming for children in Atlantic City, NJ. This role centers on safety, behavior guidance, and engaging activities across the daily schedule.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience working with children of varied ages.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Able to work outdoors and participate in physical activities (including swimming).
  • Must be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days and pass background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in orientation sessions.
  • Follow direct orders concerning children’s wellbeing and safety.
  • Assist in morning, afternoon, and going-home procedures daily.
  • Supervise children in your designated group.
  • Assist children in any situation while in Salvation Army care.
  • Never leave children unattended.
  • Ensure children are active in all activities.
  • Participate in Bible readings, prayer, and worship singing.
  • Participate in all educational activities.
  • Assist with distribution of meals and snacks.
  • Assist with cleanup after activities and meals.
  • Dialogue with parents regarding their child as needed.
  • Adhere to Salvation Army policies & procedures, including dress code guidelines.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

Manage and implement the daily functions of summer camp programming, including but not limited to children’s activities, behavior, and safety.

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that may be required. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce or expand the duties of this position at any time. Primary Duties
  • Attend and participate in orientation sessions.
  • Follow direct orders of Supervisors concerning children’s wellbeing and safety.
  • Assist in morning, afternoon, and going-home procedures daily.
  • Supervise children in your designated group.
  • Assist child(ren) in any situation that may arise while in The Salvation Army’s care.
  • Never leave the children unattended.
  • Make sure children are active in all areas during activities.
  • Participate in Bible readings, prayer, and worship singing.
  • Participate in all educational activities.
  • Assist with distribution of meals and snacks.
  • Assist with clean up after all activities and after meals.
  • Dialogue with parents regarding their child as needed.
  • Adhere to all Salvation Army policies & procedures, including dress code guidelines.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience working with children of varied ages and abilities.
  • Strong communication skills; Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Must be able to work outside and participate in physical activities (including swimming).
  • Must be certified in First Aid/CPR or be willing to take courses for certification within 90 days.
  • Must be willing to undergo criminal background check & CARI check.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
