Location: 2050 Prospect Avenue, BRONX NY

Hours: Up to 35 hours/week; Non-Exempt

Schedule: Summer / July through Mid-August

M-TH 11AM-6PM, F 9AM-6PM

Salary: $16.50/hour

Job Summary

The Summer Assistant Group Leader supports staff in executing educational and enrichment activities for the after-school program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational environment for participants.

Major Duties
  • Supervise and manage a group of participants effectively.
  • Engage participants in activities and model appropriate behavior.
  • Ensure participant safety at all times.
  • Conduct outreach to promote attendance and participation.
  • Support activity instructors and other leaders.
  • Develop and facilitate thematic curricula including arts & crafts, promoting creativity, self-expression, and emotional growth.
  • Integrate academic subjects like literacy and history when applicable.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and school personnel.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Maintain program rules and uphold the after-school model.
  • Organize culminating events to showcase participant activities.
  • Engage parents and guardians professionally and communicate effectively.
  • Address behavioral and safety concerns with the supervisor, completing necessary documentation.
  • Foster a positive, strength-based youth development environment.
  • Supervise support staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Track participant development and academic success.
  • Ensure safe arrival and dismissal of participants.
  • Inspect facilities and secure equipment daily.
  • Work during holidays and OST days as needed.
  • Maintain records, including attendance, and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Participate in events and trips, and perform other duties as assigned.
