Job description

JCC Abrams Camps is seeking an Aquatics Director for summer 2025!

This position supports the work of the JCC Princeton Mercer Bucks & Abrams Camps in strengthening community through providing a safe, fun-filled camp experience for youth and teens.

Our highly-trained and compassionate staff enables each camper to grow in an atmosphere that promotes integrity, self-esteem, positive values, and good sportsmanship.

The Aquatics Director leads the development, implementation, promotion, and administration of the JCC Abrams Camps’ summer aquatics instructional and free swim program that maintains the JCC's high standards of quality, safety, and caring; ensures effective staffing of lifeguards and instructors who lead quality programs and services; and follows JCC and state guidelines for managing an aquatics facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Supervise, train, and evaluate lifeguards and swim instructors
  2. Coordinate the operation (teaching and staffing) of the summer camp instructional & free swim program
  3. Oversee swim lessons for campers (PreK through 5th grade)
  4. Monitor and deliver participant swim progress reports and certifications
  5. Maintain aquatics equipment, areas, and records
  6. Ensure that pools meet all health and safety standards, including a clean environment, appropriate air and water temperature, chemical balance, and timely pool water testing and backwashing
  7. Secure pool facilities when not in use
  8. Ensure enforcement of pool policies
  9. Develop in-service training and conduct drills for handling emergency situations in the aquatics areas
  10. Understand all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations in accordance with camp policies and procedures
  11. Develop effective, positive, professional relationships with campers, families, and other staff members
  12. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training activities
  13. Perform other duties as assigned

WHO YOU ARE:

  1. At least 21 years old
  2. Works well with children
  3. High-energy, enthusiastic, creative, open-minded, ready for anything
  4. Team player with strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
  5. Current Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications from a nationally recognized organization
  6. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent
  7. Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred
  8. Experience lifeguarding and teaching swimming
  9. Experience managing aquatic/pool staff and swim program
  10. Working knowledge of pool maintenance and equipment
  11. Available June 23 through August 22, 2025
