Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) is seeking an AI Engineering intern/co‑op for hands-on experience in an AI ecosystem at the Santa Clara campus.

You will work on AI-assisted workflows for engineering and compute optimization, building and evaluating systems that benchmark and measure improvements, and connecting AI models with compilers, profilers, and engineering tools. Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Coursework or hands-on experience in AI or computer systems.
• Familiarity with PyTorch or similar ML frameworks.

• Support the development of AI-assisted workflows for engineering and compute optimization tasks.
• Assist in building and evaluating systems that generate, test, benchmark, and measure candidate improvements.
• Contribute to tools that connect AI models with compilers, profilers, benchmarking tools, and engineering workflows.
• Support evaluation and validation efforts focused on correctness, performance, and reliability.
• Assist with analyzing experimental results and identifying opportunities to improve AI models and optimization approaches.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI-assisted software and hardware optimization projects.
• Support experiment tracking, benchmarking, and reproducibility across AI engineering projects.
• Document technical work, experimental results, and key learnings.

JOB DETAILS:

• Location: Santa Clara, CA, USA
• Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time (40 hours a week), in either a hybrid or onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term
• Duration:
  • Summer Internship:
    • Semester Students: May 24, 2027 - August 13, 2027
    • Quarter Students: June 21, 2027 - September 10, 2027

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are seeking highly motivated AI Engineering intern/co‑op to join our team. In this role, you will –

• Support the development of AI-assisted workflows for engineering and compute optimization tasks.
• Assist in building and evaluating systems that generate, test, benchmark, and measure candidate improvements.
• Contribute to tools that connect AI models with compilers, profilers, benchmarking tools, and engineering workflows.
• Support evaluation and validation efforts focused on correctness, performance, and reliability.
• Assist with analyzing experimental results and identifying opportunities to improve AI models and optimization approaches.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI-assisted software and hardware optimization projects.
• Support experiment tracking, benchmarking, and reproducibility across AI engineering projects.
• Document technical work, experimental results, and key learnings.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Programming experience in Python.
• Coursework or hands‑on experience in artificial intelligence, or computer systems.
• Familiarity with PyTorch or similar machine learning frameworks.
• Interest in AI agents, optimization, LLMs, or AI‑assisted software development.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
