Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Summer 2027 Intern - Structural Dynamics Engineer in Georgia to perform structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles across several NASA programs. This temporary role is not to exceed 12 weeks and offers exposure to high-profile spaceflight projects.

The position requires an enrolled engineering student with relevant coursework and programming skills, plus strong communication abilities to collaborate with the team. Onsite work is expected.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited university.
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours.
  • Minimum GPA 2.8.
  • Major in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Coursework in Statics and Dynamics.
  • Proficient in Python, MATLAB or C/C++.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with MS Office.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2027 Intern - Structural Dynamics Engineer to join the team! This position will be performing structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles in multiple NASA human spaceflight programs. This includes Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, Pressurized Rover, and others.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks.

Requisition Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university.

  • Completed at least 45credit hours.

  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA.

  • Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering student

  • Coursework: Statics, Dynamics

  • Working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or C/C++

  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Experience with desktop software applications, MS Office is required

Requisition Preferences:
  • Working toward a BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Coursework: Finite Element Analysis, Linear Algebra, Structural Dynamics, Vibrations, Signal Processing, Data Analysis and Reporting, Structural Analysis

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

  • Experience coding/scripting with Python, MATLAB, or C/C++

  • Experience using FEA software and a pre/post-processor

  • Experience with Unix/Linux

  • Familiarity with version control methods such as GitLab or GitHub

Essential Functions
Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
