Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Canton, NY invites applications for a Controls Engineering Intern position for Summer 2027. You will design, implement, and test automated control systems, collaborating with experienced engineers on real-world projects and gaining hands-on experience in PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA integration.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation, with a fundamental understanding of control

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of control systems, PLCs, and automation concepts.
• Knowledge of Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CAD experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, and testing of control systems, including PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
• Support troubleshooting and debugging of control system hardware and software issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in drafting and reviewing technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and system schematics.
• Help with the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems on-site as required.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to ensure project success.
• Conduct research on new technologies, components, and industry best practices relevant to control systems.
• Maintain accurate records of work and assist in preparing project reports and presentations.
