Job summary

Scaled Composites is seeking engineering students for its Summer 2027 Internship program. Interns will work on meaningful projects and be mentored by some of the brightest minds in aerospace, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The internship lasts 10–12 weeks during summer 2027. Salary ranges from $37.00 to $42.00 per hour, with 9/80 work schedule and 100% paid benefits plus 401k matching.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, computer science or another technical discipline.
• Demonstrated range and flexibility in your work, school, or project history.
• Independent thinking and ability to work in a fast-paced, hands‑on environment.

Responsibilities

• Requires mobility and the ability to bend and reach.
• May infrequently require lifting up to 30 pounds (Ground Power Units, fuel bowsers, small aircraft).
• Manual dexterity for keyboard use and test equipment.
• Close-distance vision for screens and flight displays.
• Able to remain sedentary for extended periods.
• Able to write for extended periods.
• Office work for prolonged periods.
• May carry up to 20 lbs up stairs regularly.
• Occasional overhead reaching and lifting up to 15 pounds.
• Ability to converse and communicate information with others.
• Must read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Summary:

Founded by Burt Rutan in 1982, Scaled Composites has been in the business of Designing, Building, and Flying unique airplanes (and occasionally spacecraft) for now over 40 years. We are looking for engineering students for our 2027 Summer Internships. As we are known for having an innovative, creative, and fun culture we like to see the personal projects that demonstrate your hands‑on engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Our paid internship program will last between 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2027.

We are accepting applications from now until October 16, 2026. Expect to hear back from us in early December once interview candidates have been selected.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Job Functions:

• Requires mobility and the ability to bend and reach
• May infrequently require lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling materials (Ground Power Units, fuel bowsers, small aircraft) with a force up to 30 pounds
• Manual dexterity and coordination are required; repetitive hand motion (e.g., to operate computer keyboard, test equipment, aircraft avionics)
• Vision at close distances and the ability to adjust focus for prolonged periods (i.e., computer screen, flight displays)
• Ability to remain sedentary or stationary for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to write for extended periods of time
• Ability to work in an office setting for prolonged periods of time
• May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, test hardware, etc.
• Occasional reaching overhead and lifting up to 15 pounds
• Ability to converse and communicate information with others
• Occasional exposure to chemical vapors and/or fumes in low non-hazardous concentrations
• Potential to climb up and down steps on a daily basis
• Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
