Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an E&S Wholesale Underwriting Intern for Scottsdale, AZ, from June to August 2027. The program runs 12 weeks with housing/travel assistance available for qualifiers. Interns participate in meetings, classroom sessions, on‑the‑desk training, and projects to drive business results.

You will gain exposure to Excess & Surplus operations, work with experienced teams, and develop skills in underwriting concepts, problem solving, and communication across levels.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Marketing, Business Management, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Completion of junior year is preferred.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher is desired.
• Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in department and company meetings.
• Attend classroom sessions to build skills and knowledge.
• On‑the‑desk training with underwriting teams.
• Support internal and external stakeholders using product knowledge and coverages.
• Network with business partners to understand how the business operates.
• Complete projects with other Underwriting interns to drive results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of a E&S Wholesale Underwriting Intern might include: Participating in department and company meetings Classroom sessions to build skills and knowledge On-the-desk training Using knowledge of products & coverages to support both internal and external stakeholders Networking with business partners for a deeper understanding of how a business operates Complete projects, along with other Underwriting interns, to drive business results Performing other duties as assigned About You A successful E&S Wholesale Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has: Education Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Marketing, Business Management, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or a related field of study Completion of junior year is preferred Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience 3.0 GPA or higher is desired Skills/Competencies Exposure to insurance and risk management concepts Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to use judgement in recognizing problems, determining appropriate actions, and implementing solutions Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment Natural curiosity to explore and question Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.
