Job summary

Wabtec offers a 10-week Summer Internship Program for engineering-focused students across multiple U.S. sites. You will engage in real projects in design engineering, sustainability, systems, and testing, with opportunities for professional development and potential full-time roles after graduation.

Qualified students are rising sophomores enrolled in accredited engineering programs with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Roles may require relocation to various U.S.

Qualifications

• Completed at least one year of college (Rising Sophomore).
• Enrolled in an accredited engineering degree program (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Software, CS, Cybersecurity or related).
• At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale after completing a full year.

Responsibilities

• Support real business projects across locomotives, transit, mining and marine propulsion systems.
• Demonstrate leadership in team settings and collaborate with peers and leaders.

Job Description

We are looking for students who help us revolutionize the way the world moves in the future! If you have interests in the areas of design engineering, sustainability, systems, hands on testing, machine vision, data analytics, embedded software, RF communications engineering, systems engineering, enterprise software, or other areas in digital technology, you can gain real work experience with our products in the Locomotive, Transit, Mining & Marine Propulsion systems businesses.

Our 10-week Summer Internship Program encourages college students to explore their professional interests while working on real business projects. Our program goal is to bring your academic topics to life, give you an opportunity to see what job opportunities are possible and prepare each student for a potential full-time position after graduation in one of our challenging leadership programs or direct hire roles.

In addition to your role, you will have opportunities for professional, training and social activities throughout the experience that provide a valuable network with your Intern peers all the way up to senior leaders.

Requirements – We are looking for YOU if you have:

• Completed at least one year of college (Rising Sophomore).
• Are enrolled in an accredited engineering degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related technical degree.
• If you have and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale after completing full year of college.

Desired Qualifications:

• Open to applicants legally authorized to work in the U.S., without the need for current or future work status authorization or visa sponsorship for employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong initiative with the ability to work independently and in teams.
• Demonstrated experience in leadership roles.
• Strong desire to learn and develop technically in engineering roles to supplement classroom learning.
• Ability to communicate technical aptitude, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication & interpersonal skills.
• Able to work for a minimum of 10 weeks (maximum of 12).
• Willingness to take roles at one of our many Wabtec locations.

Locations:

Interns have the opportunity to work at one of our US sites. Possible sites may include Erie, Grove City and Wayne, PA, Melbourne and Jacksonville, FL, Norcross, GA, Fort Worth, TX, Germantown, MD, or Cedar Rapids IA.

Our hourly rates for summer internships range from $19 to $33/hr. The actual hourly rate is based on a matrix determined by your year in school/graduation year and your major. To qualify for the masters rate, you will be required to provide proof of your undergraduate degree and date of graduation as well as enrollment in an accredited university masters program for the fall 2026.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $19-33 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
