onsemi, based in East Fishkill, New York, is seeking a motivated engineering student to join the Defect Inspection group as a summer intern. You will gain hands-on experience with inspection tools while working alongside experienced Defect Engineers and Technicians.

As a Defect Inspection intern, you will participate in data analysis, recipe creation, and cross-functional initiatives to reduce defectivity, driving real-world engineering work and expanding your technical skill set.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
• Pursuing BS degree in electrical, computer, materials engineering or related field.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills required.
• Familiar with Java, Python, R or other modern programming languages.
• Familiar with SQL.

Responsibilities

• Generate defect Pareto charts, identify root causes of top defects, and drive continuous improvement with module teams.
• Collaborate with defect application engineers to improve DOI detection.
• Create and execute DOE, analyze data, and communicate results with recommendations to broader technical teams.
• Understand statistical concepts, such as multivariate and univariate analysis.
• Demonstrate project management skills with milestones and timelines.

Our team supports the inspection of wafers at various points in production for defectivity, supporting health of line in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

As a Defect Inspection intern, you will gain hands-on experience with inspection tools while working alongside experienced Defect Engineers and Technicians. You will participate in real-world engineering work such as data analysis, recipe creation, and cross-functional initiatives to reduce defectivity.

This internship is well-suited for a curious, detail-oriented problem-solver who wants exposure to semiconductor technology. It offers an opportunity to broaden your technical skills and contribute to meaningful project work.

Responsibilities

Qualifications – External

To be considered for an internship, you must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program. This position is specifically looking for someone who is pursuing BS Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, materials engineering, or other related subject.

• Strong, effective communication and teamwork skills are required.
• Familiar with Java, Python, R, or other modern programming languages.
• Good communication skills.
• Familiar with SQL.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence platforms.
• Semiconductor processing experience or coursework.
• Familiar with 5S, 8D, 6-sigma, SPC, DOE, FMEM.

onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $26.00 -$44.00 per hour exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
