WASHINGTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION: FOOD SERVICE CASHIER SALARY RANGE: 23 GROUP: FOOD SERVICE DATE OF ADOPTION/REVISION: 01/22/09 DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of the cook manager operates the district food service computerized point of sale system. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Typical duties will include, but are not limited to, accepting money, tickets or tokens for foods and beverages served in a school food service program and generating appropriate food service reports and preparing bank deposits. Other duties may include preparing or assisting in the preparation of all components of the daily meal, setting up and serving meals or meal components, washing and sanitizing, storing dishes, tableware and kitchen utensils, scrubbing counters, tables and chairs, mopping floors, disposing of waste properly, operating and cleaning kitchen equipment as assigned, storing food and supplies, assisting in taking inventories, and works on a computer. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: - Basic computer skills including data entry - Arithmetical calculation processes and simple record keeping procedures - Use and care of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils; - Proper cleaning and sanitizing methods and principles of kitchen safety; AND Ability to: - Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults - Understand and carry out oral and written directions - Operate kitchen equipment - Collect money, make change accurately and assist in preparing bank deposits -Work quickly and efficiently - Operate a computer Physical Demands - Exert 25-50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects - Perceive the nature of sounds, adequate near and far vision, provide oral information, possess manual dexterity to operate food service related equipment - Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job AND Training and experience: - High School Diploma or equivalent, and - Either one year of paid clerical work experience utilizing computers, OR - Six credit hours of computer training from an accredited institution of higher education, or - One year of experience in food preparation and service, with some experience in collection of cash - Possess Serve Safe Certification, if necessary Physical Abilities: • Stand or Sit for Extended Periods of Time • Frequent pushing, pulling, twisting at the waist • Neck flexion and rotation • Reaching above and below the shoulders • Occasional bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping • Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying of objects from 25-50 lbs • Ability to handle hot material/temperature extremes • Hand Coordination to use utensils and equipment • Hear, speak, write, and read in English • Perform mathematical calculations from memory or utilizing calculation device • Repetitive finger manipulation doing data entry and/or swiping meal cards
