Job summary

Akua Behavioral Health in California is seeking a SUD Counselor to join our SUPT program. This full-time, non-exempt role combines clinical expertise with administrative duties, including ASAM assessments and daily billing in the Smart Care EHR.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in substance use treatment, be proficient with ASAM criteria, and collaborate closely with therapists and the program team to support clients' recovery, housing, and vocational goals.

Qualifications

• CADC / SUDCC Certification or higher (required).
• 2+ years in Substance Use / Behavioral Health (required).
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification (Required).
• Valid CA Driver's License (Required).
• Current Health Screen (Required).
• TB Clearance (Required).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to remain calm.

Responsibilities

• Assessment: Conduct comprehensive ASAM assessments of client needs and strengths.
• Planning: Develop personalized treatment plans using motivational interviewing.
• Group Facilitation and Skills Training: Lead psychoeducational groups on recovery and relapse prevention.
• Case management: Connect clients to housing, mental health, medical, and vocational resources.
• Monitoring and Support: Maintain regular contact and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Collaboration and Documentation: Work with the treatment team and maintain accurate records in the EHR.
• Crisis Management: Respond to crises and coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
