Job summary

Southside Behavioral Health in Virginia is seeking a qualified clinician to deliver evidence-based substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment across Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg counties. Services include assessment, individual, group, and family therapy, OBAT counseling support, crisis intervention, and telehealth.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, MFT, or related field.
• Virginia licensure or license-eligible (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, CSAC, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of DSM-5-TR, ASAM Criteria, Virginia DMAS and DBHDS requirements.
• Knowledge of MOUD principles and harm reduction.
• Must meet criminal background and drug screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive SUD, mental health, psychosocial, and risk assessments.
• Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
• Coordinate care with OBAT medical providers and MOUD services.
• Collaborate with Recovery Court and other treatment partners.
• Maintain an active caseload and timely, compliant documentation.

Job description

Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized culturally competent care in our communities, by supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment and professional manner. Covering the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick, VA. Our behavioral health services are backed with community involvement and values.

SBH is seeking a qualified individual who can provide comprehensive evidence-based substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment through the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority funded by Southside Regional Substance Use Disorder Clinician Initiative. Services include assessment, individual, group, and family therapy, care coordination, Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) counseling support, Recovery Court services, community outreach, crisis intervention, and telehealth across Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg Counties.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive SUD, mental health, psychosocial, and risk assessments.
• Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling as appropriate.
• Deliver evidence-based practices including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care such as EMDR and/or TF-CBT, and harm reduction.
• Provide counseling, recovery planning, and care coordination for individuals receiving Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) through OBAT services.
• Collaborate with OBAT medical providers regarding treatment engagement, medication adherence, relapse prevention, and recovery progress.
• Participate in Recovery Court staffing and coordinate treatment recommendations with judges, probation, attorneys, case managers, peer recovery specialists, and other treatment partners.

The clinician will maintain an active caseload that supports the goals of the OAA-funded initiative. The anticipated caseload distribution is:

• 40% Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) and MOUD clients.
• 30% outpatient Substance Use Disorder therapy clients.
• 20% Recovery Court participants.
• 10% clients receiving co-occurring mental health treatment directly related to substance use recovery.

Caseload percentages may be adjusted based on community need, referral volume, grant priorities, and supervisor direction.

Productivity Expectations

• Achieve at least 22 billable client contact hours per week by the end of the six-month probationary period.
• Achieve and maintain 26 billable client contact hours per week after probation.
• Maintain a caseload serving approximately 50-80 adult clients annually.
• Meet agency documentation, quality, outreach, and grant performance standards.

Performance Measures

• Increase access to outpatient SUD treatment throughout the three-county service area.
• Expand OBAT counseling capacity and increase therapeutic counseling and MOUD participation.
• Improve client engagement and retention in treatment.
• Support Recovery Court enrollment, participation, and successful graduations.
• Improve psychosocial functioning and recovery outcomes using validated outcome measures, including WHODAS, UDS, AUDIT, CAGE, and other agency-approved tools.
• Strengthen collaboration among healthcare, behavioral health, criminal justice, and community partners.
• Support long-term sustainability of the position through third-party reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or related behavioral health field.
• Virginia licensure or license-eligible (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Resident, Supervisee, CSAC, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of DSM-5-TR, ASAM Criteria, Virginia DMAS and DBHDS requirements.
• Knowledge of MOUD principles, opioid overdose prevention, harm reduction, and recovery oriented systems of care.
• Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
