Job summary

Houston City College is seeking a Success Coach (Grant-Funded) to support new and returning students through academic planning, course sequencing, and retention efforts. The role works with faculty and staff to aid completion, transfer, and workforce placement.

Qualifications

• 2 years related experience in teaching, tutoring, advising and other program areas related to teacher education required
• Experience in higher education and student tracking preferred

Success Coach (Grant-Funded) - Education COE

Supports work with new and returning students to ensure a successful transition to and through college. Will assist students with academic planning, and course sequencing by partnering with faculty, staff, and Instructional and Student Services to aid students with retention and completion, transfer, and/or career placement in the workforce.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement an orientation for new students that sets clear expectations for fieldwork, academic rigor, licensure steps, and available support.

Develop and document advising policies and procedures specifically related to educational careers, providing holistic, comprehensive, proactive academic and transitional advising support to students.

Proactively outreach and coach target students with a particular focus on how to succeed in coursework and effectively engage with self-directed learning to help them identify and overcome obstacles that may impede academic success by co-creating an academic success plan with students.

Establish effective partnerships and collaborate with campus colleagues to support student success; enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives.

Document student interactions and coaching sessions in appropriate college systems in a timely manner.

May provide reports and other analytics regarding student interactions; including attendance, academic progress, interventions, etc.

Monitor centralized dashboard to track program enrollment, advising milestones, and student credentialing progress.

Increase visibility and promotion of tutoring, mentoring, and job coaching services across campuses and modalities.

Attend required professional development and collaborative advising meetings.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner.
