Job summary

St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN seeks a Success Coach for the Academic Success Center. This exempt, 0.92 FTE position works on campus with a schedule August through June, 40 hours/week, typically Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends during orientation.

The role focuses on proactive student support, coaching, and developing 4-year planning and academic skills. Travel up to 5% and a commitment to inclusive student services are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience in student services, advising, mentoring, SI, tutoring, or academic coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Success Coaching and meet each student on caseload at least once per semester.
  • Lead SOAR groups, co-facilitate sessions and develop workshops on study skills and time management.
  • Perform general office duties, assist with registration periods, meetings, reporting and campus collaboration.

Job description

Position Title: Success Coach.
Department: Academic Success Center.
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 0.92.
Work Schedule: August through June, off the month of July. 40 hours per week, hours to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; occasional evening and weekend hours are required, especially during New Student Orientation. Flexible work arrangements can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors.
Travel up to 5% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities Metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 1-2 trips per year.
Work Location: On Campus.
Salary Range: $48,754- $54,526.

Essential Job Duties
  • Provide Success Coaching.
    • Develop rapport and meet individually with every student on caseload at least once/semester to provide holistic support.
    • Provide proactive outreach to students who are experiencing academic, personal, financial, or other difficulties (e.g. early alert, lack of engagement).
    • Develop a Success Plan and meet weekly with students placed on academic probation.
    • Provide one-on-one academic skills coaching.
    • Collaborate with students to design, create and confirm developmentally appropriate 4-Year Planning tasks.
    • Nudge students via text on important student responsibilities and student success issues (e.g. registration holds, course sequencing, financial aid deadlines).
    • Utilize software management system to monitor and respond to student needs and keep accurate records.
  • Provide Leadership and Support for SOAR Groups
    • Co-lead SOAR discussion sections with peer SOAR leaders
    • Provide workshops on study/test taking skills and strategies, reading strategies, time management, test anxiety, mindfulness, stress management, building healthy relationships, etc.
    • Plan, lead and implement activities to foster belonging and assist students to build connections with peers, staff and faculty.
    • Develop holistic coaching materials on a wide range of resources and academic and personal support areas including time management, test anxiety, research – based learning strategies and study strategies, stress management, financial wellness.
    • Assist with the hiring of approximately 115 SOAR Student Peer Leaders.
    • Assist with the supervision and mentoring of approximately 24 SOAR Peer Leaders.
  • General Office Responsibilities
    • Provide supplemental advising, especially during registration periods.
    • Assist with all Academic Success Center support activities such as meetings, new student orientation activities, reporting, data collection, and grant writing.
    • Collaborate with a wide range of campus partners.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
    • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
Supervision Received and Exercised
  • Reports to the Program Director of Advising.
  • This position does not supervise anyone.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of undergraduate or postgraduate experience in student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), study skills development, and academic or other coaching, or related work experience.
