Job summary

GMV Spain is seeking a Subsystem Engineer – Data Systems, Operations & Advanced Networking Testbeds to design, operate, and improve mission-critical data systems for space communications. You will work at the intersection of high-reliability operations, low-latency networking, and experimental R&D, contributing to both current operations and future architectures.

The role requires hands-on experience with Linux (SLES preferred), C/C++, Java, and scripting (Bash, Python), plus a solid

Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in Linux environments (preferably SLES) and experience with high availability services.
  • Solid programming skills in C/C++ and Java, complemented by scripting experience in Bash and Python.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, routing, and WAN/MPLS technologies.
  • Experience with hardware/software interfaces and system-level debugging in complex technical environments.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting mindset with the ability to analyze and resolve issues across software, OS, network, and platform layers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the DaSS subsystem in a 24/7 mission-critical environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with customer and mission requirements.
  • Design, implement, and operate SatCom networking testbeds to support validation, experimentation, and performance analysis of emerging space communication technologies.
  • Analyze system behavior, diagnose complex issues, perform root cause analyses, and support configuration changes, migrations, and operational readiness activities.
  • Develop automation tools and scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, Java, C/C++) to support operations, testing, monitoring, and system performance analysis.
  • Contribute to engineering activities, technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to continuously improve mission-critical systems.

WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?

In this role, you will work at the intersection of high‑reliability operations, low‑latency networking, and experimental R&D, contributing both to today’s operational excellence and to tomorrow’s space communication architectures.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Operate and maintain the DaSS subsystem in a 24/7 mission‑critical environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with customer and mission requirements.
  • Design, implement, and operate SatCom networking testbeds to support validation, experimentation, and performance analysis of emerging space communication technologies.
  • Analyze system behavior, diagnose complex issues, perform root cause analyses, and support configuration changes, migrations, and operational readiness activities.

WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR TEAM?

We are looking for graduates in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with background and interest in system engineering, networking, embedded or ground systems.

This is what we are looking for in detail:

  • Strong expertise in Linux environments (preferably SLES) and experience with high availability services.
  • Solid programming skills in C/C++ and Java, complemented by scripting experience in Bash and Python.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, routing, and WAN/MPLS technologies.
  • Experience with hardware/software interfaces and system‑level debugging in complex technical environments.
  • A hands‑on troubleshooting mindset with the ability to analyze and resolve issues across software, operating system, network, and platform layers.

We will also value previous experience, and knowledge in:

  • CCSDS and SatCom standards, protocols, and specifications, including CCSDS O3K, ESTOL, DTN, Space Packet, and CADU.
  • Experience with performance‑critical or low‑latency systems, testbeds, and protocol benchmarking.
  • Exposure to SatCom operations, experimental networking, or research‑driven technology prototyping.
  • Interest in connecting operational systems with R&D activities and future‑oriented technology validation.
