Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician – SUE Tech III / Crew Leader

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Description

As the SUE Tech / Crew Leader, you will lead a two or three-person SUE crew, performing underground utility designation and location. Proficiency in electromagnetic location equipment, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and non-destructive air-vacuum excavation tools is required. Experience with related equipment like jackhammers, tampers, and concrete saws is also necessary.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead safety meetings and follow safety procedures.
• Operate excavation and geophysical equipment to locate utilities accurately.
• Interpret utility records, design plans, and as-builts using One Call systems.
• Coordinate with clients, property owners, and utility reps.
• Supervise and train crew members; assist with scheduling and inventory.
• Document findings through sketches, reports, and photos.
• Maintain equipment and work sites.
• Perform measurements, calculations, and implement traffic control when needed.
• Be physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs., walking long distances, and traveling as required.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• Pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Effective communication skills and technical aptitude.
• 6+ years of SUE or related experience.
• Ability to obtain OSHA certifications, DOT medical card, and other industry certifications.
• Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
• Experience with AutoCAD/Microstation is a plus.
• Ability to work standard hours, including potential night shifts and overtime.
