Job summary

Orange Public Schools is seeking substitute teachers for general classrooms and special education teachers to cover daily assignments in alignment with school plans.

Positions follow the Orange Public Schools student calendar, with workdays on school days and a 7.5-hour day from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm when available. The 2026-27 daily rates are $129 (non-certified) or $134 (certified).

Responsibilities

• Keep students safe by following school and classroom safety procedures.
• Follow teacher's lesson plans and classroom behavior management procedures.
• Engage in duties such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal.
• Ensure the classroom is orderly at the end of the day.
• Leave a note for the teacher if incidents occur that need reporting.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of school principals, a substitute teacher will provide coverage for classroom teachers on a daily basis. Substitute teachers are responsible for:

• First and foremost, keeping students safe by following school and classroom safety procedures
• Following teacher:
  • lesson plans
  • classroom behavior management procedures or class created charters
• Engaging in teacher duties such as, but not limited to, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal duties
• Ensuring the classroom is in order at the end of the day
• Leaving a note for the teacher if necessary, to inform him/her of any incidents she/he may need to know.

Term/Duration

Workdays follow the Orange Public Schools Student Calendar, therefore work is available on school days.

7.5 hours a day (8:00 am-3:30 pm) on days when the substitute teacher is available to work.

Salaries

The 2026-27 daily rate is $129.00 for non-certified subs and $134.00 for certified teacher subs
