Job summary

Community Coordinated Care for Children, Inc. (4C) is seeking a Substitute Teacher (Part-time, on-call) to support Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms in Orange County, FL.

This on-call role requires flexibility to cover shifts from 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, up to 25 hours weekly. You will assist the Teacher with lesson plans, behavior management, and basic child care while ensuring compliance with Head Start standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year or more experience in childcare preferred.
• Must enroll in 45-hour state-mandated training within three weeks.
• Must pass background screening for childcare personnel.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in following lesson plans and daily routines.
• Implement classroom management techniques and behavior plans.
• Provide basic care including diapering, feeding, and handwashing.
• Maintain classroom records and progress notes and reports.
• Travel to Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides services to Early Head Start and Head Start children and families in compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards Child care work involving assisting the Teacher in working with young children and families to develop their cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform teacher or teacher assistant duties in absence of the teacher or teacher assistant including, but not limited to following lesson plans and daily classroom routines.
• Implementing lesson plans pursuant to teacher/TA directions.
• Implementing individual goals and objectives pursuant to teacher/TA directions.
• Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques.
• Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc.
• Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classrooms, including, but not limited to sweeping floors after meals and activities, wiping tables and counters, cleaning changing tables, placing trash in appropriate containers, and washing, sterilizing and putting away equipment (toys, laundry and dishes).
• Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
• Ensure Teacher and/or TA are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
• Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher and/or TA.
• Identifies and reports child abuse cases.
• Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by Head Start/Early Head Start, HIPPA, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
• Works in assigned classrooms as designated and based upon agency needs. Will require travel when necessary.
• Assists Teacher in maintaining classroom records, progress reports, accident reports and other necessary documentation.
• Helps classroom volunteer with classroom routine.
• Assists Teacher with ensuring compliance with child outcomes, State of Florida Early Childhood standards, Head Start Performance Standards, and the goals & objectives of the current Head Start curriculum.
• Attends all pre-service and in-service training programs and other mandatory training programs.
• Participates in the Agency’s Quality Improvement Program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Knowledge of early childhood growth and development, and age-appropriate activities.
• Knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations in child care, to include the Active Supervision of children.
• Ability to gain knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and Head Start Policies and Procedures.
• Ability to receive and follow detailed instructions.
• Ability to operate a personal computer. Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and databases, including Microsoft Word.
• Ability to navigate the Internet.
• Ability to maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, parents, volunteers, and community representatives.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
• Ability to work and communicate with people from various multi-cultural backgrounds and socio-economic levels.
• Sensitivity to the needs, abilities, beliefs, and attitudes of individuals within and outside the Agency, including but not limited to clients and co-workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• One (1) year or more experience in childcare or school experience working with age range assigned preferred.
• Must be able to obtain at least fifteen (15) clock hours of certified training per year.
• Must enroll and complete the State mandated 45-hour module for childcare within three weeks of being hired.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must meet criteria for background screening as required for childcare personnel in childcare licensing regulations.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials and children.
• May be required to perform moderate lifting, approximately 30-50 pounds, for example in lifting children.
• Position requires bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Ability to appropriately prevent a child from hurting him/herself or others.
• Required to stand and/or be in continuous motion for extended periods of time while performing job functions.
• Ability to speak in front of large groups.
• Ability to set up meetings including moving tables, chairs, etc., and cleanup.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• The ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or qualitative productivity standards.
• The ability to maintain reasonably, regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
• Compliance with all personnel policies of the Agency.
