Job summary

Lamar County Schools is seeking a Substitute Teacher who has completed required training or holds a verified teaching certificate to cover classroom duties as needed in all Lamar County schools.

Requirements include a GED or high school diploma, and completion of at least a four-hour initial substitute training (exemptions apply for holders of a valid or expired teaching certificate). The district pays $60 per GED-through-3-years of college or $70 per Bachelor’s degree or higher.

(1) Definitions

Substitute teacher - an individual employed to serve in the absence of the regularly employed teacher.

(2) Requirements

Georgia Department of Education Rule number 505-2-.18 - SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS Governs the training of Substitute Teachers.

The qualifications are ranked as follows:

1. Possession of a valid or expired professional teaching certificate (or letter of eligibility for the same) based on a baccalaureate degree or higher;
2. Completion of a baccalaureate degree or higher;
3. Completion of at least one or more years of postsecondary training beyond a high school diploma ranked in order of number of years completed;
4. Possession of a high school diploma;
5. Possession of a GED certificate

(b) Prior to placing any individual on a substitute teacher list the individual shall have completed a minimun of four hours of initial substitute training. Those inviduals who possess a valid or expired professional teaching certificate (or letter of eligibility for the same) are exempt from this requirement.

Lamar County Pays $60 GED through 3 years of college. $70 for Bachelors Degree or higher.
