Job summary

St Regis Academy in Missouri is seeking substitutes or guest teachers for the 2023-24 school year. The Substitute Teacher will effectively manage and instruct the class when the regular teacher is absent, ensuring a supportive learning environment.

Duties include following provided lesson plans, maintaining classroom order, adapting methods to meet individual student needs, supervising students in and out of the classroom, and preparing in-class and take-home assignments.

Qualifications

• Must meet Missouri state requirements to qualify as a substitute teacher.
• Follow lesson plans to provide a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism with children and families.

Responsibilities

• For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans.

In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular teacher is absent, the Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class. Some of the Substitute Teacher's duties and responsibilities include:

• Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
• Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
• Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
• Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
• For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans

Requirements

A Substitute Teacher teaches and supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead the class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans, and creating reports to inform the students’ permanent teachers of their successor struggles during their absence.

A successful candidate will:

• Assist children in developing good habits and role modeling.
• Have completed the necessary training and requirements of the State of Missouri to qualify as a substitute teacher.
• Pass a background check and complete the Diocese Virtus training
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information of each child and family.
• Professional and positive interactions with the children and families.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds and be able to move with the children in activities.
