Job description

Position Summary

Responsible for teaching middle- and senior-high school classes, assisting in the testing program, maintaining related administrative systems, and supervising institute student activities as required. The primary concerns include ensuring safety, supervision, advising, counseling, and role modeling for students.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Instruct students in basic middle- and senior-high school subjects.
  2. Prepare and maintain an educational development plan for each student.
  3. Research, select, and maintain appropriate educational materials, equipment, and resources.
  4. Adhere to all contract and state educational guidelines and Quality Assurance requirements.
  5. Maintain lesson plans for your area of responsibility.
  6. Coordinate all activities with the Education Coordinator or Principal.
  7. Administer pre/post academic assessment tests and pre-GED tests; manage documentation of Carnegie Units (high school credits) for each student.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete administrative file systems.
  9. Perform home visits as dictated by program standards and/or state contract.
  10. Serve as an advisor and positive role model for assigned students.
  11. Drive institute vehicles as required, in accordance with the Van Policy.
  12. Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies, following Red Cross standards.
  13. Participate in day trips and special activities involving recreational sports, facility and equipment cleaning, grounds maintenance, and equipment relocation.
  14. Use the Behavior Modification System effectively by providing redirection and coaching to students exhibiting inappropriate behavior.
  15. Prevent and intervene in student altercations and incidents.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • One to two years of related experience.
  • State Teacher Certification preferred; School district's Substitute Teacher Certification or Approval is required.
