Description

The Substitute Teacher for the SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Program in East St. Louis will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality early childhood education. Responsibilities include facilitating developmentally appropriate lesson plans, implementing the curriculum, managing classroom behavior, conducting screenings and assessments, maintaining records, scheduling home visits and parent conferences, and managing child outcome data. The ideal candidate will foster an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment for children.

Responsibilities
  • Design daily lesson plans incorporating multicultural materials and activities, including during Family Style Dining, in compliance with Head Start standards.
  • Organize the classroom according to developmental levels, maintain a clean and safe environment, and create child-centered displays.
  • Oversee classroom operations, manage behavior, support teachers, and organize volunteer activities.
  • Engage with children to promote language development and higher-level thinking skills.
  • Conduct developmental screenings and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, including home visits and conferences, and support family engagement.
  • Maintain attendance and other documentation, participate in staff meetings, and communicate supply needs.
  • Perform additional duties as required and pursue ongoing professional development.
Work Schedule

This part-time position offers up to 18 hours per week, with a flexible schedule subject to change due to program needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, or
  • Associate degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education and at least two years of experience teaching young children, and currently enrolled in a relevant degree program.
