Overview:
The Preschool/Nursery Sub is responsible for providing support and assistance in the CHESS Christian Preschool. This role involves stepping in as needed to ensure the smooth operation of daily activities, maintaining a safe, engaging, and nurturing atmosphere for young children, and supporting the preschool administrative staff.

Essential Functions, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

  • Be flexible and responsive to changing staffing needs by filling in for absent teachers
  • Assist lead teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum for preschool children
  • Supervise and engage with children during playtime, outdoor activities, and meal times to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages social, emotional, and cognitive growth
  • Follow established classroom routines, including transitions, meals, and group activities
  • Support individual students' needs, including helping with toileting, feeding, resting, and addressing minor behavioral issues
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized classroom, including cleaning and sanitizing toys and equipment
  • Participate in required training sessions to stay updated on best practices in early childhood education and required ODJFS trainings
  • Adhere to all safety and health guidelines, including emergency procedures and first aid if necessary
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, showing respect and care for all children and their families

Required Qualifications:
  • “Born again” Christian with an active, growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • Faithfully attends and supports a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with the CHESS Statement of Beliefs
  • Agree with, support, and abide by the CHESS Christian School Statement of Beliefs, Lifestyle Statement, and Educational Philosophy
  • Be at least 18 yrs of age
  • Verification of high school education
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Able to provide necessary documentation for medical statement
  • Able to frequently lift 30 lbs without assistance
  • Able to supervise students during outdoor play in various weather conditions, including the heat and cold
  • Ability to quickly adapt to varying classroom environments, student ages, and subject matters
  • Flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the school with a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work independently in the classroom to address academic and administrative responsibilities while adhering to the school’s policies and teaching standards

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Previous experience in a preschool setting
  • Established OCCRRA account with valid preschool training, like Preschool and Childcare Center Orientation, CPR & First Aid, Communicable Diseases, Child Abuse Prevention, etc.
  • Familiar with ODJFS preschool rules and regulations
