District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) is seeking a Substitute Teacher for Early Childhood Education (ages 3 to 5) to support classrooms across DC Public Schools. You will deliver high-quality instruction when the lead teacher is absent, while maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment and following daily lesson plans.
Responsibilities include supervising students, supporting language development, managing transitions, and collaborating with teachers and staff.

Position Overview
Substitute teaching offers an opportunity to impact students in one of the most dynamic urban school districts in the country while maintaining schedule and location flexibility. As such, substitute teachers are expected to maintain a professional attitude toward their work and always keep in mind the school system's goals. Effective substitute teachers make a positive impact on students. Substitute teachers are located in all DC Public Schools and education campuses throughout Washington, DC. Under the direction of the Principal and other administrative staff, ECE substitute teachers play a critical role in the delivery of high quality instruction to children ages 3 to 5 in the absence of an ET-15 teacher or paraprofessional aide. In DCPS’ early childhood classrooms children learn through a combination of play, well-planned teacher-led lessons and engaging learning experiences. Our classrooms promote children’s active engagement with the environment and our teacher's design learning experiences to promote children’s language development, critical thinking skills, creativity, and early academic skills. The DCPS Pre-K program ensures that children are well prepared for success in kindergarten and beyond.
This position has been designated asSafety Sensitive.Pursuant to section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations; in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests: Criminal background check; Sex Offender Registry check; Pre-employment drug and alcohol test; Traffic record check (as applicable); Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test; and Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test.
