Job summary

University Settlement is seeking a per diem Early Childhood Assistant to support lead and assistant teachers in classroom sessions in New York, NY. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment for toddlers and preschoolers during multiple shift options (8:00am-1:00pm, 9:00am-2:00pm, 1:00pm-6:00pm) with up to 35 hours per week.

Requirements include a High School diploma/HSE, CDA or associate degree preferred, and 2–3 years of classroom experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or HSE required.
• CDA or associate degree in early childhood preferred.
• Two to three years' experience working with toddlers and preschoolers in a classroom setting.
• Good organization, communication, and writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Support lead teachers and assistant teachers to lead classroom sessions.
• Support classroom staff on classroom routines, activities, curriculum and transitions to ensure health and safety of children.
• Create a positive and engaging learning environment appropriate to developmental needs and interests.
• Ensure the safety of all children by actively supervising the children by sight and sound.
• Communicate effectively with classroom staff and direct supervisor on all matters related to the children.
• Other duties within the scope of the position as requested by supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities.
