Job summary

The Y of Central Maryland is seeking a Substitute Teacher for Head Start to support classroom activities and safety across multiple Head Start sites. You’ll work with the classroom teacher, stepping in as needed to keep routines smooth and to nurture each child’s growth.

This role emphasizes collaboration with families and staff, helping economically disadvantaged children prepare for school and life by fostering social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development in a supportive learning

Qualifications

• 1 year of early childhood experience.
• Clear communication and listening with children, parents/guardians, and staff.
• Certification or degree in early childhood education as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher to ensure safe, healthy classroom operation.
• Be eligible to work at multiple Head Start locations as needed.
• Support development across social, emotional, cognitive, and creative domains.

How this role contributes to the Y’s mission:

As a Y Substitute Teacher for Head Start, you will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to ensure successful operation of a classroom. You will be called upon when needed and will be asked to work at various locations throughout the Y’s Head Start areas of operation. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program. You will contribute to the creation of an environment which fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in your care. As a Y Substitute Teacher for Head Start, you’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by working with our littlest participants who are economically disadvantaged and help them prepare for success in school and life.

• 1 year of early childhood experience
• The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
• 90 Hour Child Care Certificate; or minimum of AA in Early Childhood Education
