Position Compensation: $20.71/hr

Job Purpose

Assists teachers in caring for and instructing pre-school children, promoting their social, physical, and mental development. Provides supervision, supports classroom planning, and ensures a safe, healthy environment.

Position Responsibilities

Under supervision, assists in planning and implementing lessons, conducting meetings with parents, coordinating activities, and managing paperwork required by the program.

Essential Duties Of The Position Include

• Share teaching responsibilities with a Teacher I or II.
• Supervise children at the site.
• Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe environment.
• Prepare snacks and meals; sanitize food areas.
• Help children practice good hygiene.
• Assist in planning lessons and developmental assessments.
• Serve as an interpreter for non-English speaking parents, if possible.
• Assist in teacher-parent conferences.
• Maintain attendance and achievement records.
• Organize and maintain supplies.
• Set up and take down classrooms at shared sites.

Qualifications

A responsible adult who enjoys working with children, with good organizational and communication skills. Basic computer skills are desirable.

Experience

• 6 months to 1 year working with pre-school children, preferably in Head Start. Must be at least 18 years old.
• Proof of DOJ clearance to work with children required before employment.
• Life scan associated with California Community Care Licensing.

Education

Less than 60 days Substitute Permit or 6 ECE units.

License/Credential/Permit

• CPR/First Aid Certificate.
• Valid California Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance.
• COVID vaccination (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson); exemptions available upon request.
• Proof of DOJ clearance required before employment.

Physical Demands

Must meet physical requirements such as lifting 35 lbs, visual and auditory acuity, and ability to perform activities typical in a preschool environment. Accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

Special Requirements

• TB test within the past year and every four years thereafter.
• Health screening (LIC 503) at employment start, valid within one year prior.
• Immunizations for Measles, Pertussis, and Influenza required.
• Ability to perform physical activities as described.
• Proof of COVID vaccine required.
