  • To be eligible, you must be registered with the KCSOS office as a Substitute Teacher. Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) is located at 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA. KCSOS substitute teaching Information can be found at https://kern.org/credentials/credentialing-office/substitute-teaching-permits-substitute-pay-rates/. Applicant must make an appointment with KCSOS for fingerprints. (661) 636-4672


Required paperwork: Please attach the following paperwork from both sections in the \"Other Documents\" section of your Application:



  • KCSOS Paperwork: Valid Teaching Permit or Credential that includes the document number and expiration date, or your Current Temporary County Certificate from KCSOS.

  • Your Own Paperwork: Current ResumeForm titled \"Information Necessary for Sub Teaching\" completed by KCSOS

  • Transcripts showing a Bachelor's Degree or 90 semester units and current enrollment at a 4-year university. (They do not have to be official transcripts)

  • DOJ Fingerprint Clearance (half sheet)

  • TB Results with doctor's signature

  • Medical Examination Form (Physical)

  • Certificate of Completion for the Mandated Reporter Training (CANRA)

  • Sexual Harassment Training

  • (Both certificates need to have a completion date of July 1st, 2026 or later)

Copies of required certificates, transcripts, or diplomas may be submitted with the application. The district may require that originals be presented for verification before employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college coursework, official transcripts will be required upon employment.


It is the applicant's responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.


Conditions Of Employment

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
