Job summary

Bertschi School in Seattle is seeking a dedicated substitute teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Substitutes are pre-arranged or called to cover classrooms when teachers are ill, and may work with students from pre-K through 5th grade.

You will implement lesson plans, collaborate with faculty, support social-emotional growth, operate classroom equipment, and communicate with families. A teaching certification and a master’s degree in education or related field are preferred, and teaching

About Bertschi School

Bertschi School, founded in 1975, is a Washington State-approved elementary school serving students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. We are an accredited member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

Position Description

Bertschi substitute teachers are pre-arranged or called when a teacher is ill to cover teaching responsibilities. Substitutes share their availability and teaching preferences with our office manager. Substitute opportunities range from one to several days in a given classroom throughout the school year. Substitutes may cover classroom teachers, teaching associates, and specialist classes including library, PE, Spanish, science, edtech & robotics, and drama.
