Job summary

Bertschi School is seeking a Facilities & Operations Coordinator to manage building and campus maintenance, support a major construction project, and assist in daily operations. This 2-year, non-exempt, full-time role runs 10:00 AM–6:30 PM and offers health insurance, vacation, retirement, and benefits.

The position focuses on maintenance, safety, and event support, with opportunities for transition to a permanent role as the project completes.

Qualifications

  • Aptitude and interest in facilities maintenance.
  • Prior school experience a bonus.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion for prolonged periods of time.
  • Enjoy being around children and part of a school community.
  • Experience collaborating with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Flexible and collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in repairs and maintenance of all school buildings and grounds.
  • Assist in project work on campus, minor repairs and painting.
  • Perform periodic indoor and outdoor cleaning duties.
  • Assist with school landscaping and safety/ security.
  • Help prepare for major construction on campus and set up for events.
  • Support student movement and lunch/recess supervision during construction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

(2 year position with the possibility for a permanent role)


Non-Exempt - Full Time, 10A-6:30P daily


$26.00 to $28.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications

About Bertschi School

Bertschi School, founded in 1975, is a Washington State approved elementary school serving students in grades pre-kindergarten to fifth. We are an accredited member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).


Position Description

This is a multi-faceted role that includes facilities and operations responsibilities as the school embarks on a major construction effort on campus from June 2026 to August 2027. Each aspect of the role is summarized below:


November - August 2026

Assist in carrying out repairs and maintenance of all school buildings on campus, including the general care and maintenance of school grounds. Position duties include:



  • Performing preventative maintenance duties as assigned

  • Assisting in keeping the buildings and grounds well maintained and in good repair

  • Assisting in project work on campus such as minor repairs and painting

  • Performing periodic indoor and outdoor cleaning duties around campus

  • Assisting periodically with school landscaping

  • Helping the school prepare for major construction on campus

  • Assisting with set up for school events

  • Assisting with school safety and security

  • Assisting in keeping all school equipment in good working order

  • Other duties as assigned


September 2026 - October 2027

In addition to the facilities responsibilities above, support the ongoing operations of the school during the construction effort and the transition to the new build post construction. These other duties will include:



  • Assisting in student movement across campus, including crossing guard duty

  • Student lunch and recess supervision

  • Other duties as assigned
