Job summary

BrightBee LLC is seeking Substitute Teachers in San Jose, CA to provide instructional continuity when regular teachers are absent. You will work with school partners across Rocketship locations in San Jose, selecting assignments that fit your schedule and earning potential.

Ideal candidates hold a California Substitute Permit or Teacher Certification; bachelor's degree is required, and bilingual Spanish is a plus.

• Document student progress with end-of-day reports to inform the regular teacher.

What You'll Be Doing

• Prepare the classroom space and materials in accordance with provided lesson plans
• Lead student instruction and maintain behavioral expercations
• Manage daily classroom tasks, including taking attendance, monitoring hall passes, and supervising lunch or recess periods as required
• Document student progress and classroom happenings through detailed end-of-day reports to ensure the permanent teacher is fully informed upon their return.
• Support students with learning and classroom activities
• Help manage behavior using positive reinforcement
• Assist during lunch, recess, and school activities
• Work closely with teachers and school staff

Basic Requirements

• Bachelors Degree
• California Substitute teaching permit or California Teacher Certification

• Important Note about Certification: A valid California Substitute Permit is not required at the time of application; however, active progress toward certification is expected during the interview process. Full certification is a prerequisite for employment.

• Follow safety and reporting guidelines
• Complete required school clearances which you are responsible for paying.
• Costs associated with the clearance process are the sole responsibility of the candidate, as this engagement is for an independent contractor role rather than a traditional employment position. Requirements vary by state but may include the cost of a background check, obtaining a copy of any college transcript you have, and the cost of completing Mandated Reporter training. The estimated clearance cost for California substitute teachers is around $250.
