Job summary

District 148 in Illinois seeks qualified substitute teachers. Must hold a valid IL Substitute Teaching License or other ISBE-approved credential and be registered in ELIS prior to employment. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or higher and be prepared to complete district onboarding and fingerprint/background checks.

Short-Term licenses may be considered; strong classroom management is a plus. Daily rate is $160 for day-to-day substitutes, with $200 per day for long-term assignments

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

• Must hold avalid Illinois Substitute Teaching License or other qualifying Illinois educator licenseappropriate for substitute teaching.


• License must bevalid and properly registered in ELIS (Educator Licensure Information System)before employment.


• Applicants seeking a regular Substitute Teaching License generally must possess abachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, unless qualifying through another ISBE-approved pathway.


• Candidates holding aShort-Term Substitute Teaching Licensemay be considered subject to ISBE requirements and assignment limitations.


• Must successfully complete allDistrict 148 pre-employment requirements, including required onboarding documentation and training.


• Must authorize and successfully complete the requiredfingerprint-based criminal history/background checkand applicable offender-database checks before beginning employment. Illinois law requires these checks as a condition of school district employment.


• Must demonstrate professionalism, dependability, effective communication skills, and the ability to work successfully with elementary and middle-school-aged students.


• Must be able to follow teacher lesson plans, District procedures, school rules, safety protocols, and administrator directions.


• Must maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students, staff, and District information.

Compensation

• Day-to-Day Substitute Teacher: $160.00 per day


• Long-Term Substitute Teacher: $200.00 per day after serving more than 10 days in the same assignment and school building, subject to District policy and applicable licensure requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous classroom, substitute teaching, or educational experience.


• Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.


• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.


• Flexibility and willingness to accept assignments throughout the District.
