Job summary

Ohkay Owingeh is seeking substitute teachers to work under the Education & Disability Service Manager and support students throughout the school day. You will follow lesson plans, supervise students, and ensure safety in classrooms, playgrounds, and cafeterias while contributing to the educational process.

The role is structured as a substitute position with responsibilities that adapt to daily needs and school schedules, including logs and possible additional duties required by the supervisor.

• Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Education & Disability Service Manager, substitute teachers will maintain direct supervision of students before, during and after school. Substitute teachers will follow the teacher’s lesson plan and continue with the educational objectives of the grade being substitutes. Ensure safety and maintain order in the classroom, playground, and cafeteria including wherever students are present while contributing to the educational process.

Work under the direct supervision of the Education & Disability Services Manager.

NATURE OF WORK

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Direct supervision in the absence of the regular education Teacher
• Ability to follow and execute daily Teacher lesson plans
• Maintain safety and order of all children in the classroom, cafeteria, or playground settings
• Follow the regular school day’s start and end times
• Contribute to the educational process while substituting to minimize the loss of instruction during the absence of the regular classroom teacher
• Submit logs as necessary
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of Traditional form of government and Pueblo customs and traditions
• Knowledge of the functions and structure of Ohkay Owingeh
• Knowledge of childhood development, behavior and nutrition guidelines
• Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English both verbally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be 18 years of age

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; sit; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally performed in a school/classroom setting with a moderate noise level. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
