Job description

Position Title: Substitute Teacher

Reports To: School Site Principal

Classification: Pay based on Board-approved Substitute Salary Schedule

Terms of Employment: Assignments made at District’s Direction

Principal And Essential Functions
  • The ability to follow lesson plans, left by the permanent teacher.
  • Teaching capabilities in assigned subject area(s).
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • The ability to address the various learning styles of students.
  • The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on a student's prior knowledge and experience.
  • The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs.
  • The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
  • The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments
  • The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior.
  • The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies.
  • The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
  • Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Principal.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  • Must be prompt and reliable
  • May be asked to perform duties typically for school settings including: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • Other physical activities may be required.
  • Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.
  • Must be appropriately dressed for assignment
  • Must be able to work independently without continuous supervision.
  • Must be able to perform teaching tasks with reasonable accommodation(s)
Qualifications
  • Required – Arizona Department of Education Substitute, Teaching or Administrative Certificate
  • Required – Attend One-Day District Orientation
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
