JOB GOAL
Responsible for enabling students to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher by delivering instructional plans, maintaining established classroom routines and positive behavior supports, and ensuring all procedures are followed to maintain student safety, security, and compliance with school and District policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
- Instructional Preparation: Review with the Head of School, designee, and/or designated teacher the instructional plans, schedules, and materials to be followed during the teaching day.
- Instructional Delivery: Teach and implement the lessons, assignments, and instructional activities prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consultation: Consult, as appropriate, with the Head of School or designee before initiating any lesson or procedure not specified in the teacher's plans.
- Classroom Maintenance: Maintain as fully as possible the established routines, expectations, and environment of the school and classrooms to which assigned.
- Student Supervision: Monitor, assist, supervise, and support students in the classroom and on campus throughout the school day, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and recess as directed.
- Learning Environment: Maintain a student-centered learning environment that is safe, organized, respectful, and accommodating of the differing needs of students.
- Behavior Management: Monitor student behavior using positive behavior supports, maintain discipline in accordance with required disciplinary policies and procedures, and enforce classroom rules, school expectations, and the Student Code of Conduct to foster a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Student Accommodations: Assist with the implementation of student 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary, under the guidance of applicable school and instructional staff.
- Reporting & Feedback: Report in writing the day's activities, student attendance, completed work, and behavioral notes at the conclusion of each day, and provide other feedback as requested by the Head of School or designee.
- Confidentiality: Treat all student, family, and staff information with the utmost confidentiality in accordance with federal, state, and District policies (FERPA).
- Policy Compliance: Follow school and District policies and procedures concerning education, health, safety, equipment, emergency protocols, and the wellbeing of students.
- Professional Relationships: Establish and maintain positive, professional, and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, and families.
- Asset Protection: Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Daily Care Support: Provide support in developing and maintaining students' daily living needs and health/safety needs as directed.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, including lesson plans and daily classroom schedules.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents/guardians, orally and in writing.
- Effective classroom management skills and ability to maintain a positive, structured learning environment using positive behavior supports.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic operating knowledge of computer systems and classroom technology (e.g., word processing, email, interactive displays, web-based applications).
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with school staff and stakeholders.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from an accredited institution OR an Associate degree / minimum of 60 college credits with relevant classroom experience
- All employees must satisfactorily complete any required trainings
- All employees must meet all mandated federal and state health requirements
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Florida Educator's Certificate, Statement of Eligibility, or District Substitute Certificate (preferred)
BACKGROUND SCREENING
Ability to pass a Level II background screening through Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working with children in a classroom or educational environment
- Familiarity with Montessori philosophy and classroom practices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT
- Proper use and handling of adaptive equipment and devices as necessary, and general office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Compensation:
- Daily Substitute-paid at $105 per day
- Long-Term Substitute-paid at $125 beginning on day 10 of the assignment
- Work Schedule: Workdays and hours of employment shall be on an as-needed basis as established by the School.
- Evaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
