Job summary

St. Philip's Episcopal Church and School is seeking responsible Substitute teachers to support all faculty and staff in carrying out the school mission and curriculum.

This role provides classroom coverage as assigned when any teacher is absent and requires confidence in teaching a wide range of developmental age groups from Pre-K through Grade 5. The Chief of Staff assigns coverage, and the substitute will uphold a safe, engaging learning environment while adapting to varying classroom needs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous elementary school teaching experience preferred.
• Strong command of the English language and excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow the teacher’s lesson plans to ensure consistency and optimal learning.
• Assign classwork and homework according to lesson plans.
• Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment.
• Supervise students in hallways, during recess and lunch.
• Ensure the safety and schedule of children during the assigned classroom.

General Responsibilities

• Follow the teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning and that encourages students to participate
• Assign classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans
• Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment
• Supervise students out of class, such as in the hallways and during recess and lunch
• Responsible for the safety and schedule of children during your assigned classroom

Requirements And Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Previous elementary school teaching experience and independent school experience preferred
• Strong command of the English language
• Excellent organizational skills
• Flexible, friendly, and good at establishing quick rapport with students
• Authorization to work in the United States, background check, and fingerprinting are required for employment.
