Job summary

Heartland AEA seeks a licensed special education teacher to serve incarcerated students at Newton Correctional Facility and Mitchellville's Iowa Correctional Institute for Women for 2026-27. The Substitute Shelter Care Teacher provides individualized instruction in accordance with state and federal special education regulations within a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Licensed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
• Special Education Endorsement: Instructional Strategist I or II (or equivalent).
• Successful teaching experience in general and special education.

• Provide individualized instruction to incarcerated individuals with disabilities in accordance with state and federal special education regulations.
• Collaborate with the correctional education program team to assess needs, develop and implement IEPs, monitor progress, and adapt instruction for diverse learning profiles.
