Job summary

Oxford Hills School District (MSAD#17) is seeking qualified Substitute School Nurses to support our 8 schools located across our district.

Substitute nurses provide primary health services, manage chronic and acute conditions, respond to emergencies in the absence of the regular school nurse, and collaborate with staff to promote student health.

Compensation is $40/hour and positions are on an as-needed basis during the school year.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from an accredited LPN/RN program.
• Current Maine LPN or RN license is required.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• CHRC with fingerprinting is required by the Maine Department of Education.
• Minimum of one year of pediatric nursing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of childhood illnesses and chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures).
• Ability to perform skilled nursing tasks such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin pump management, nebulizer treatments.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatments per state regulations and district policies.
• Provide emergency and routine health care to students, staff, and visitors.
• Promote student wellness and disease prevention.
• Act as a liaison between home and school regarding student health concerns.
• Deliver care per 504 Plans, IHCPs, and Emergency Care Plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the district's electronic health record system.
• Support communicable disease prevention and awareness efforts.
• Conduct health education and provide guidance to students and families.
• Assist with health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.).

Substitute nurses play a vital role in promoting the health and safety of students and staff by providing primary health services, managing chronic and acute conditions, and responding to emergencies in the absence of the regular school nurse.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program
• Current Maine LPN or RN license
• Current BLS certification
• Valid CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) with fingerprinting, as required by the Maine Department of Education
• Minimum of one year of pediatric nursing experience preferred (or equivalent experience in acute care, public/community health, or home health care settings)
• Knowledge of childhood illnesses and chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures)
