Job summary

A local education authority is in immediate need of a Substitute School Nurse to provide care in the health office and on field trips when the school nurse is absent. Responsibilities include administering care and medications, teaching health classes, and documenting student encounters. Qualifications

• Must have a NJ RN License, NJ standard School Nurse Certificate or a County Substitute School Nurse Certificate.
• Hold current New Jersey State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Hold current CPR/AED certification.
• Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases.
• Ability to teach health in the classroom.
• Computer skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Administers care to students and staff based on current Standing Orders.
• Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
• Follows lesson plans to teach health classes as scheduled.
• Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
• Documents all student encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
