SUMMARY:
The substitute school nurse promotes and protects the health status of students and staff through functions in the areas of health services, health education, and maintaining a healthy environment. The major focus of substitute school nursing is to provide short term care for students and staff with acute injuries, illnesses, and aid with interventions in crisis situations. In addition, administering oral and injectable medications as needed. Critical thinking and excellent assessment skills are important in the treatment and triage of acute injuries and illness. The substitute nurse will manage students with chronic conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, Seizure Disorders, ADHD, and Psychological Disorders, as well as others.
