Job summary
Perris Elementary School District is seeking a Substitute School Nurse to support health services across six K-6 elementary schools and two K-8 schools in Perris, California. The hours are 7:15 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday, with a salary of $300 per day.

Qualifications
- California Health Services School Nurse credential or ability to obtain.
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certificate preferred.
- CPR certification and health-related training.
Responsibilities
- Conduct mandated health screenings (vision, hearing) and complete related annual reports.
- Monitor safe administration of medication for students with physician orders.
- Assist in identification/evaluation for special education and participate in IEP meetings.
- Monitor immunization requirements and assist staff/parents with compliance.
- Provide counseling and referrals for health-related issues to families and staff.
- Serve as health education consultant to teachers and parents.
- Support district health curriculum and preventive health education activities.
- Supervise health aides and provide DIS to special education students as needed.
- Consult with physicians on SPHCS and other health service provisions.

SCHOOL NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION
Definition:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, the school nurse develops and maintains a broad program of health education and services designed to protect, maintain and enhance the health of students.The school nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by identifying and remediating health related barriers that may impede the ability of students to learn.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct mandated health screenings, i.e., vision, hearing, and follow-up; complete related required annual reports and maintain health/records.
- Monitor the safe administration of medication for students with physician order to take prescription medication at school.
- Participate in the identification and evaluation of students recommended for special education assessment; complete developmental history reports and participate in IEP meetings when appropriate.
- Monitor compliance with immunization requirements; complete required immunization reports, interpret immunization requirements and rationale to staff, students, and parents; assist parents in complying with District immunization requirements.
- Provide counseling and assistance to parents and staff for referral and placement to appropriate program and services regarding health related issues.
- Serve as a health education and staff development consultant to classroom teachersand parents.
- Assist in the implementation of the District health curriculum, particularly in the areas of drug, alcohol and tobacco use prevention education, family life education, AIDS education and control of communicable diseases.
- Teach, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Specialized Physical Health Care Service (SPHCS) procedures provided to identified students.
- Consult with physicians on Specialized Physical Health Care Service and other issues related to the necessary provisions of health services in the school.
- Provide professional supervision of health aides at assigned work sites.
- Provide Designated Instructional Services (DIS) to special education students as specified on their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certificate.
- Experience and background in Public Health.
- Previous experience in school nursing.
- Knowledge of Specialized Physical Health Care procedures, especially those commonly associated with students with severe disabilities.
- Public Health Nurse Certificate.
- Possession of valid Audiometric Certificate.
- Possession of valid Vision Screening Certificate.
- CPR Instructors certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
- Bilingual/Spanish ability desirable.
Educational/Credential Requirements:
Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university.Possession of or ability to obtain a California Health Services School Nurse credential.
